| Transportation Governance: A Civic Conversation
January 6 th , 2005 Forum
3:30 to 7:45 PM
Parrington Hall, Room 309
University of Washington (Seattle Campus)
This forum has been organized by the Regional Governance Project, a collaborative effort of The Municipal League of King County, the Cascadia Center at the Discovery Institute, the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, the Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington, and the Appleseed Foundation.
The purpose of this forum is to generate a dialogue on the ways that governance structure determines the delivery of transportation systems and services. While it may be useful in the course of the discussion to address assumptions or review the current system, these are not the focus of the forum. The moderators will make sure that most of our "air time" is focused on the issue of governance.
An additional purpose is to elicit feedback on the question of whether or not there is a "governance issue" and if so, what it is. We are not expecting or seeking a consensus. Rather, we are trying to get a sense of the importance given to the issue of governance by an informed group of individuals.
This has been a purely volunteer effort. As organizers we want our work to be relevant to legislative deliberations, but the impetus behind the Regional Governance Project is independent of any legislative action. The discussion, therefore, should not be driven by pending legislation, if any. Instead, it is intended to inform the larger question of governance.
