National web resources providing information about Building the Entrepreneurial Nonprofit

The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation is an operating and grantmaking foundation that works toward the vision of self-sufficient people in healthy communities. The Kauffman Foundation's work is focused on two areas: Youth Development and Entrepreneurial Leadership. This site links to the Kauffman Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, which works on accelerating entrepreneurship through educational programming and research. The Kauffman Center is the largest organization solely focused on entrepreneurial success at all levels -from elementary students to high-growth entrepreneurs.

The Foundation Center contains information for and about grantmakers. The site has an extensive online library, access to Philanthropy News Digest, and a bookstore/ and publications center.

The Free Management Library offers information about social entrepreneurship and other management issues. Once you get to the library page, click on Social Entrepreneurship and check out all the links that they list.

The Roberts Enterprise Development Fund provides assistance to nonprofit organizations operating business ventures employing very low-income individuals throughout the greater San Francisco Bay area. REDF's Social Venture Capital approach includes providing access to capital and business technical assistance and an array of program supports such as information management, computer and Internet support services and access to the marketplace.

The National Center for Social Entrepreneurs provides guidance, seminars and information for nonprofits that want to become more entrepreneurial. The web site has articles such as "What does it take to be a good social entrepreneur?" and "The entrepreneurial nonprofit organization".

The Entrepreneurs' Foundation (EF) is a nonprofit organization created to strengthen the Silicon Valley/Bay Area community by tapping the talent and wealth of entrepreneurial companies and their employees. It directly supports the community by applying venture capital principles to scale-up successful community programs. EF is translating the extraordinary successes of the technology industry into a platform for long-term community investment and prosperity.

The WK Kellogg Foundation published "Unleashing New Resources and Entrepreneurship for the Common Good" in 1999. You can download the publication here. This report discusses social entrepreneurship, business and social responsibility, and the concept of philanthropy as social venture capital. The report contains an excellent bibliography and literature review at the end.
