John Fine
President and CEO
United Way of King County
Jonathan "Jon" Fine became
president and chief executive officer of United Way of King County (UWKC)
in September 2000, following an extensive local and nationwide search.
Fine came to United Way from
the Seattle/King County Chapter of the American Red Cross where he was
chief executive officer. Fine joined the American Red Cross (ARC) in
1996 as the chief operating officer. He became chief executive officer
in 1997. The ARC is a key organization in King County for disaster preparedness
and response. It also provides first aid courses and products, as well
as emergency food, clothing, shelter and other programs for military,
youth and immigrant populations.
Before joining the Red Cross,
Fine worked in the banking industry with the Puget Sound Bank from 1981
to 1993. He served as senior vice president and treasurer of Puget Sound
Bancorp and as managing director of Puget Sound Securities.
Fine has an undergraduate
degree from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, and a master of business
administration from the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.
Fine, a native of Philadelphia,
PA, is married to Paula Selis, senior counsel for the Washington State
Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division. The couple has two
children, Daniel, 14, and Rebecca, 8.
He was appointed to the Seattle
City Planning Commission by then Mayor Charles Royer from 1982 to 1988,
and served as chair in 1987. He has served as a board member of the
Group Health Cooperative, the Group Health Foundation and Jewish Family
Services.
Among his other current civic
affiliations, Fine serves as a campaign cabinet member for UWKC, on
the board of the Washington Health Foundation, and on the advisory boards
to the Puget Sound Blood Center, the University of Washington Nonprofit
Management Program and Seattle Community Colleges.
United Way of King County
is now the fourth largest local United Way in the country among 1,400
groups. It trails only Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C. in annual
campaign revenues.
United Way of King County
is a local, non-profit organization that has been supporting health
and human services programs in our community since 1921. This support
is provided with funds raised through an annual community-wide fund-raising
campaign that responds to the year-round assessment of problems, issues,
and service needs in King County. United Way is governed by a 60-member
volunteer board of directors, and there are several hundred other community
volunteers who serve in a variety of programs and activities. The volunteers
are supported by a staff of 110.
