Doreen Cato is currently Executive Director at First Place, a nonprofit agency focused on assisting families in transition and providing therapeutic programs for children in grades K-6th. Prior to joining First Place, she was an educator in the Detroit, Michigan schools, owner of a dance/movement studio in Bellevue, employed by Washington Mutual, and later United Way of King County as Director of the Greater Seattle Market fund raising division. Ms. Cato's community involvement is very extensive. She has volunteered for 20 years in Seattle and Bellevue, on various boards, committees and task forces. She was appointed in 1995 to the King County Housing Authority Board of Commissioners by then King County Executive Gary Locke; she serves on the Cultural Competency Committee for the Minority Executive Directors Coalition, Bridges International Repertory Theatre Board, LIOS/Bastyr University Board of Trustees; she is a member of the Social Concerns Commission at St. Louise's Church in Bellevue; and was recently appointed by Governor Locke to the Washington State Advisory Council for Homelessness. Doreen has worked as adjunct faculty at Antioch and Western Washington Universities, including Leadership Institute of Seattle/Bastyr University, in the masters program in Applied Behavioral Science. She has a Bachelors degree in Art Education and a Masters in Applied Behavioral Science, with an emphasis on organizational and human systems. Among her many past awards and recognitions, she can add 1999 Who's Who in America, the City of Bellevue's "Best of Bellevue" and Bellevue Business and Professional Women's "Woman of the Year" award. However, as the mother of Christina and Barron Cato, she believes them to be two of her greatest accomplishments.
